Connecticut bill proposed to protect police officers, firefighters and EMTs

Jan 08

Connecticut State Rep JP Sredzinski has introduced a bill to protect police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians by making it a hate crime to assault or verbally attack a person because of the actual or perceived occupation of such person.

The text of the bill directs that the crime of intimidation based on bigotry or bias, be amended to make it a violation for a person, with the intent to intimidate or harass another person because of the actual or perceived occupation of such person as a police officer, firefighter or emergency medical technician, to assault or threaten, or damage the property of, such other person.
