WOODLAND PARK, NJ - A fundraiser is being set for later this month to help a beloved member of the Passaic County Sheriff's Department.
On April 11, 2017, Todd Kayal, a resident of Woodland Park, was in a motorcycle accident that let him paralyzed from the chest down due to suffering a traumatic spinal cord injury.
Kayal dedicated his life to public service as a 25 year veteran officer of the Passaic County Sheriff's Department. He is father to two children.
His GoFund Me page notes that according to the Dana and Christopher Reeve Foundation, the average expense for the first year of a tetraplegia patient can exceed $1 million, which includes handicap modification to a home, handicap transportation, home health care assistance, as well as equipment needed to support every day life.
The Kayal family, with support from the Police Benevolent Association #197, will hold a fundraising pasta night on Monday, Oct. 30 from 7 to 11 p.m. at The Brownstone, 351 W. Broadway in Paterson. The cost is $50 a ticket.
To purchase tickets, contact the Passaic County Sheriff's Department at 973-389-5908.
